Biography : Benjamin Finn

Since graduating from Cabra College in 2002, Benjamin has been involved on and off the stage around Adelaide and Victoria for a variety of musicals, plays, cabaret and concerts. While still at school he performed in a number of music ensembles including bands, vocal groups and as a featured soloist. He performed in school productions of The Wizard of Oz, Oliver!, Bats, A Midsummer Nights Dream and Confusions. In his graduating year he was honoured with the Year 12 music award for most outstanding contribution to music life at Cabra College.

Benjamin’s first amateur theatre experience was in 2003 with the MS Society in their sold out production of Les Miserables. Since then, he has gone on to perform in MS Society productions of Oliver!, Gypsy, The Wizard of Oz, another production of Les Miserables with Normie Rowe, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Alice and played Noel (one of the Delltones) and Col Joye in the Australian Amateur Premiere of Shout! The Legend of the Wild One directed by Ross Coleman. Benjamin has also assisted the MS Society in their golf days, quiz nights, MS Ball, MS Readathon and various other fundraising events.

Along with performing, Benjamin has extensive experience backstage. He has been involved in Lighting Design, Set Design, Set Construction, Stage Management, Front of House Manager, Theatre Usher and worked as Crew on numerous shows.

In 2005 Benjamin was a founding member of the theatre company ‘Twenty-to-One Theatre’ where he co-produced and performed the role of Eddie in the South Australian Premiere of A Slice of Saturday Night - The 60’s Musical. In the same year, he performed the role of Will Parker in Oklahoma! for The Gilbert & Sullivan Society.

 In 2006, Benjamin performed in the ATG 24 hour show Guys and Dolls, Dickon in The Secret Garden for Therry Dramatic Society, Hans in Hans Christian Anderson, was a supporting artist in Upstage at the Brenton Langbein Theatre in Tanunda, was featured in For Those Who Have Ears at Concordia College and debuted his cabaret show You’re A Good Man, Benny Finn at La Boheme. Last year Benjamin moved to Melbourne to study at the Victorian College of the Arts. While studying, Benjamin was involved in many performances at the VCA including the role of Carl Magnus, A Little Night Music. His time at the VCA allowed him to work with many professional artists including Tim Smith, Martin Croft, Cara Dinley, Nathan Pinnell, Margot Fenley, Lisa Sontag, Glenda Linscott, Gary Young, Babs McMillan, Robyn Arthur and Tanya Mitford. Benjamin also had the opportunity to further hone his skills with private tuition with Melissa Langton and Eddie Perfect and featured in Toni Lamonds’ Music Theatre Master Class in Adelaide.

Upon his return to Adelaide in February this year, Benjamin has commenced dance training with Movement Studios and is having private singing tuition with Guila Tiver. Most recently, Benjamin has been appointed Workshop Co-ordinator with Urban Myth Theatre of Youth, Unley.
